FERGIE HAPPY WITH THE US TOUR

Fergie:

“I couldn't be more pleased with the way this tour has gone.
I would say it is the best pre-season we have had. It is
much easier for the players because it is English speaking
and they don't have the emotional drain of supporters
hanging round the hotel all the time.

“It has allowed us to do our proper preparations for the
season and we have come out of the trip knowing our form is
good and our fitness is fantastic. In addition, it has been
proved that travelling back home from the west is easier
than the east, so we may not have the type of slow start we
seem to have after coming back from the Far East.

“We have really enjoyed being in America and we are also
delighted with the reaction of the supporters to our games.
No-one underestimates United States in soccer terms any more
and if they keep producing players who can operate
effectively in Europe and the national team continues to do
well in the World Cup, attitudes will change.

“When we set out people said we were trying to conquer
America. I'm not sure that's the right word but we are quite
right to make people in this country aware that Manchester
United is out there. You are up against great tradition and
that is not an easy thing to overcome but there is no reason
why soccer can't be part of US sport and why Manchester
United can't be a part of that.”
