FERGIE, KEANO AND ARSEWIPE QUOTES

Last updated : 16 February 2003 By Editor

The rest of Fergie's quotes:

'You expect tackles in a cup tie between Manchester United and Arsenal and we tried to do that fairly.

'You need the referee to be able to handle it and he reacted badly. He allowed the Arsenal players to bully him. There were nine or 10 players around him all the time as if every tackle was a massacre.

'When you get people the size of Patrick Vieira and Sol Campbell round you it doesn't do the game any good.'

'We have a few bumps and bruises (DB and JSV) but we'll see how things look over the next couple of games.

'It was a good result for Arsenal and you have to give them credit for the way they killed the game.

Fergie just stops short of the ‘we can concentrate on the league’ cliche: 'We wanted to win but the one thing it does it ease our fixture congestion and hopefully we can benefit from that.'

Keano:

"It was very hard for the referee. It is easy to criticise when you are watching but here were a lot of late tackles going in and overall I thought he did well."

Wenger:

'They tried to intimidate us but we kept our heads.

‘It was an outstanding performance,' he purred ahead of next Tuesday's Champions League clash with Ajax.

'We controlled the game from the first minute to the last. This win will give us confidence and belief for the rest of the season.'

'It was a composed performance. We didn't react to them and the new pitch meant we could come out of their physical challenges with short passes.'

About that miss: 'I was optimistic because the ball was on his right foot - but of course he should have scored.'

It strengthens our belief and confidence.

"We are on a consistent run at the moment, and this win is good for the future.

And another quote from Wenger:

"Overall, I thought we controlled the game. If United had scored just before half time, I'm still not sure we would have lost the game.

"We felt, from the bench, that we were dominating the game and creating chances."

Overall, or from start to finish?

And a bonus, a couple of views from Manutd.com:

I think that Manchester United should have won. They should have got a penalty when Campbell attacked Solskjaer. Ryan Giggs should be very ashamed of himself for not giving us the lead. He hasn't been the Ryan Giggs that we all know. I am totally disappointed with the miss. Maybe it is time for him to move on. If that goal had gone in, the story would have been very different. One down and three to go. Time to wake up.

Well, I think we all saw a shift in power, Arsenal completely dominated the whole game. What has happened to United's passing? It was terrible! The first touch of most of the players was poor. Ruud is great in the six-yard box but outside it he’s not good enough! I hope they can come back, but after this game it’s going to be tough!
