FERGIE NOT HAPPY WITH THE DEFENDING

Ferguson’s reaction to last night:

”We defended terribly for the two goals and if you defend
badly in games of this nature you deserve everything that
happens to you. From a position of control we surrendered
within minutes and allowed Stuttgart to become strong.

"I will take nothing away from Stuttgart because
they are an who are a very good, emerging, young team. They
deserve to be top of the German league and their record
suggested they would be a difficult team to play against.
Nonetheless, with our experience we should have done better,
we have contributed to our own defeat tonight.

“We committed ourselves to winning balls we shouldn't have
been winning, all we needed to do was drop off to the edge
of the box and be patient. We maybe had a bit of fortune
tonight with the save from Tim Howard because that goal
might mean something to us when Stuttgart come to Old
Trafford.”

There is now a worry over the fitness of Rio Ferdinand, who
perhaps unfairly was blamed for the defeat in the Daily
Moron. He limped off after conceding the penalty, but Fergie
doesn’t think it is serious:

“We will take a look at it tomorrow. It was just a collision
with the centre-forward and I don't think it was serious but
we will wait and see.”

Stuttgart coach Felix Magath was obviously delighted at the
victory, but didn’t feel that the penalty was fair:

“I think the actions of our goalkeeper were absolutely
correct. He was going for the ball and he used his hands so
there was no reason to give a penalty.”
