United cruised into the last eight of the competition with a 4-1 win at Pride Park on Sunday evening without Fergie having players such as Wayne Rooney and Dimitar Berbatov amongst his squad. Nemanja Vidic and Carlos Tevez were named amongst the substitute's but neither played any part in the match against The Rams.

"I've been saying for some weeks, with all the injuries, it's the squad that's been carrying us through difficult games and they have proved it again," the United boss said after the match.

"With the League game on Wednesday against Fulham in mind I made some changes and it worked out well.

"The players had a good attitude, they all wanted to play and that made the pace of the game really quick.

"I was very pleased."
