FERGIE PRAISE FOR IRWIN

Denis Irwin returns to Old Trafford tonight, and unlike
another former Red he’s received praise from Fergie:

"Denis was an incredible buy for us. Probably one of the
greatest bargains of my time as manager here. He was a
marvellous servant and a fantastic professional. His
presence will be very important to Wolves this season."

Despite his presence in the Wolves side, Fergie thinks that
they will struggle this season:

"The teams who have survived and done well in the Premier
League are the ones who have got off to a good start. It is
not an easy league to come into and if you don't start well
it can kill you. In Denis Irwin and Paul Ince, Dave
obviously has a couple of players with great experience who
I know very well. That gives them a better chance of
survival than most but unless he can get another couple of
players from the same mould, it may not be enough.

"I know what Wolves is like. I went down there for four
years to watch Darren play and there is a lot of pressure on
everyone. In the 1950s they were the team. There is history
and tradition and the managers there have had money to spend
which brings more pressure. What I always feel about them is
if someone went in there with the magic touch and kept them
in the Premiership, they could be a really big club.

"I sincerely hope Dave Jones achieves it because I have
known him since he was at Stockport and always felt he was
cut out to be a manager."
