Toldo edged a 14-strong field of elite goalkeepers linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent months. Real Madrid’s young stopper Iker Casillas came second in the poll with 16%. Antti Niemi of Southampton was the Premiership’s top representative, with 15%, closely followed by Chelsea’s Carlo Cudicini who clinched 13%. Stuttgart’s Timo Hildebrand was the only other goalkeeper to poll double figures with 12%.
Espanyol’s Idriss Kameni came (7%) next followed by Paul Robinson of Spurs (6%), Newcastle’s Shay Given (4%), Charlton’s Dean Kiely (2%) and Jose Moreira of Benfica (2%).
Middlesbrough’s Mark Schwarzer, Udinese’s Morgan De Sanctis, Shaktar Donetsk’s Jan Lastuvka and Bolton’s Jussi Jaaskelainen each polled around 1%.
