"I can't understand the criticism Gerard has received over the past few weeks,
particularly given the job he has done there.

"He has changed the whole culture of the club in such a short space of time
and five trophies at any club should make you a fixture for life.

"He is a great football man and you have to be committed to manage a top
club. Gerard obviously continues to see his life in the game."
