FERGIE WARNS AGAINST COMPLACENCY

“We’ve always said that, come the beginning of January, we
want to be in a good position near the top of the table –
whether it’s second or third, as long as we’re within a
point or two [of the top team], we’d obviously be delighted
with that,” Sir Alex told MUTV.

”The bonus is we are top of the league by a point, which we
are grateful for.

”Historically, we do tend to get our game going really well
in the second half of the season. But, in the past, we’ve
lost leagues in the second half of the season.

”We had the injury situation the year that Arsenal pipped
us, and there was the year we came too late to catch
Blackburn. These we remember quite well,”

Fergie also spoke of his delight at the way the new players
have settled in,

”There is always the worry that new players will take time
to settle. In Kleberson’s case, he got his shoulder injury.
That was possibly a blessing in disguise. It allowed him to
settle in to the club.

”His wife was expecting a baby, she gave birth while he was
still out injured. So, that was one area we had to be
patient with.

“Obviously, with Cristiano Ronaldo we’re just ‘bit-by-bit’
with him, we’re not pushing him. The sensation as far as I
am concerned has been Tim Howard – he’s been terrific.”
