FERGUSON PHILOSOPHICAL & GENEROUS

Ferguson singled out stand-in midfielder Phil Neville for praise:

`He is very versatile, although that has probably not done him too many favours, I have played him at right-back, left-back, right midfield, central midfield. He is honest, plays with great enthusiasm and is quick around the pitch.'

Above all else Ferguson was relieved that Diego, Ole and Ruud bagged goals:

"I'm pleased for him, even though it was a penalty. That will kick start him, I'm sure. He does some fantastic work during the game, and I'm pleased for him. The job was to make sure they didn't get into our half, as they are quite skilful there. They proved that towards the end, although maybe we took our foot off the pedal. Our attacking play was very good at times I was very pleased with that. The confidence was good, too. They played as if they wanted to win."

And Ole and Ruud:

"The Solskjaer goal tells you what a great goalscorer he is. I hope that kickstarts him as well and gives him the confidence to go on. And Ruud took his goal well, and he made Ole's goal too. That's important - if you don't score you still contribute. Ruud did that tonight and did very well."
