FERGUSON PLEASED WITH START

Ferguson was happy with the result last night after United's win but admitted he was a little concerned by the fixture.

"It was a great performance by us with Gary Neville pulling out this morning it was a real demonstration of how strong the pool of players is,"

"The advantage is that Chelsea have lost but after just two games you cannot talk about winning the league yet.

"But of course we have the will to do it, we have the players to do it and without question we have the spirit in the camp to do it.

"It was a great performance, nobody can deny that. I was a bit concerned about the game when a few players missed out through injuries and suspension.

"But we have a lot of maturity there now with players like Ronaldo, Fletcher and Park Ji-Sung growing up.

"It is always a tough game at The Valley and we had to wear them down. We were frustrated when we hit the post and the crossbar, but then got a goal out of nothing. We could have got a bit frustrated in the first half when we kept hitting the woodwork after playing some good football.

"But we got a goal out of nothing in the end through Darren Fletcher. He did brilliantly to turn the defender twice - it's not like Darren to produce that type of play, he's more of a pass and move player, but he took it very well.

"And it was a great night for the fans and the staff when Solskjaer scored. He has had a tough few years, but we never lost faith and he got his rewards."

"Ole has been through a torrid time with injuries for the last two years, but he's persevered and never lost faith and has got his repayment tonight. Everyone is over the moon for him."
