"That was Paul's first goal since April and it will do him nothing but good," said Ferguson after Saturday's match. "He is a natural finisher and that goal will do him the world of good. I expect him to go on and reach double figures for us now because that is what he has always done."

"We controlled the game and made a lot of chances. We could have scored a lot more. Patience is important because most teams play one up and five midfield players here and you have to be patient. You have to use your imagination to break them down though and we did that."

"We got the kind of break we have been missing so far this season," observed Ferguson. "Hopefully we will get a bit of good fortune now."

And looking forward to the New Year.

"If we do get a run through December then by New Year's Day we could be right back in there. By the beginning of January you know who should be in for the final round. You have to perform in the second half of the season."
