ALEX FERGUSON has made a shock £5million move for Real Madrid star Luis Figo. The Manchester United boss believes he can convince winger Figo, 31, to quit the Bernabeu on the cheap and help him reclaim the Premiership title from Arsenal.

Fergie sent Old Trafford officials to Spain yesterday to open talks with
Figo, who cost Real £37m from Barcelona in 2000.

Figo has one year left on his Madrid contract but has already admitted he plans to leave on a free transfer next summer, with Real reluctant to offer a new deal.

Figo said: “It would be a dream for me to play in England — but dreams don’t always happen.”

Reports that Figo is affectionately known as F*ckin Hell Figo in Madrid are unsubstantiated.
