Chelsea have admitted a charge of failing to control their players during the 2-0 Barclays Premier League defeat by Manchester United at Old Trafford last month.

Mike Dean, the referee, reported Chelsea after being surrounded by at least four players who were protesting at John Obi Mikel's sending-off during the first half. The midfield player was show the red card for a challenge on Patrice Evra, the United left back.

Steve Clarke, the Chelsea assistant coach, has also admitted a charge of using abusive and/or insulting words towards the match officials in the players' tunnel at Old Trafford, which was Avram Grant's first match as first-team coach of Chelsea.

Clarke and the club have requested personal hearings, which are yet to be scheduled by the FA. Chelsea have been fined three times for similar incidents since March 2006.
