FIVE IN A ROW?

Ferguson believes that United's good start to the season is down to the strength in depth of the squad and not the lack of quality in the teams faced so far.

Ferguson said: "Our critics have been quick to point out that we won our first three league games last season only to lose one and then draw two of the next three.

"I would suggest though that there is a totally different background this season.

"Last year I was picking my strongest side when we won the opening fixtures.

"This time we have opened with a run of injuries and suspensions that have seen Gary Neville, Gabriel Heinze, Nemanja Vidic, Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes on the sidelines.

"Yet we have still won and I take great heart from that."
