FLETCHER DEAD CHUFFED

" I just thought to myself keep it down and make the goalkeeper work and to see it go in was just unbelievable.

"It's something you dream about when you are younger and to fulfil that was just brilliant. I just had to keep the ball on the floor and luckily it went in.

"I used to come up here and watch Scotland. It's difficult now being in Manchester, but it was something I always wanted to do."

Meanwhile Michael Stewart bares no grudges after Fletcher has seemingly overtaking him in Scotland's reckoning:

From The MEN:

"I'm chuffed for him. He has made it into the United team and he's held his own, so he deserves to be there.

"Darren is a couple of years younger than me and we'd occasionally go down to Old Trafford at school holidays together when we were kids.

"We didn't play in the same age group but everyone within the club knows that Darren was always one of the best players in his team.

"But I'm not disappointed that it's not me because Darren has come in and played wide on the right.

"It's slightly different for me because I'm a central midfielder, as is Darren, but I don't know if Alex Ferguson is thinking of moulding him into a wide right player.

"But it's not a position I can play so I'm not disappointed because Darren is not someone who is taking my place."
