Fred Insists Playing Packed Festive Schedule Is 'Worth it' After Breaking Into Man Utd First Team

Manchester United midfielder Fred has refused to criticise the hectic festive fixture schedule, while the midfielder has also claimed that he is targeting trophies in 2020.

The Brazilian failed to impress during his first season at the club, but has been clawing his way into United fans' good books in recent weeks.

Fred failed to feature in the club's first three league games, but an injury to Paul Pogba gave him a chance to reclaim his spot in the starting lineup. He has now gone on to start the last 15 league games, playing the full 90 minutes in his team's last 12 matches in the league.

Most recently, the 26-year-old helped his side overcome Newcastle on Thursday evening. The Red Devils next face a trip to take on Burnley on Saturday, just 48 hours after their previous clash.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has recently described the fixture schedule over the Christmas period as a 'crime', sympathising with the concerns of Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

However, speaking ahead of his side's trip to take on Burnley on Saturday, Fred refused to criticise the fixture list.

Fred

"It’s tiring but it’s worth it. It’s really important to be playing in these games and, as I said before, I’m really happy to have been playing in all the games and for us to have the full squad available and players back, that’s a really positive thing for us," he told the club's official website.

"We have games every couple of days and we need to keep on a good run and, for me, I want to continue to show my true game and show the reason that Manchester United signed me.

"All the other championships have a break but I like to continue to show my football and do well for United and get on the radar of the Brazilian national team. So rather than look elsewhere at what other people are doing, my maximum focus is on what’s happening here and to continue to play well.”

The United man went on to reveal that he hopes to get back into the Brazil national team, while he is also keen for the team to improve in the new year after some 'very disappointing' performances against the so-called smaller clubs.

Fred is also targeting trophies in 2020, adding: "Firstly, I will continue to do my best to help the team win games and we want to win trophies too. I think we have a good chance in the cups – the League Cup, the FA Cup and the Europa League, which are really important for us and we’ll be looking to win these trophies.

"I hope to continue doing my best for the team and I hope that we can win a trophy in 2020.”
