FUN IN AN INDUSTRIAL ESTATE?

This match report taken from a Winsford fan site:

‘If you missed this game then I feel truly sorry for you. It is easily the best game I have seen this year. With over 2000 fans cheering on the players it made for a great spectacle, even if most of the fans were cheering for the visitors. The game was held at the Victoria Stadium, Northwich, which made it all the more special for both home and away players. Even though the first half was goalless it was by no means without action. Winsford had the first attack of the game with Rick Arnold attempting to stab the ball past Priestley in the visitors goal. Then Hutchinson had only the keeper to beat but again he proved well capable of protecting his goal. In fact Hutch had at least another two chances, but was unable to convert either of them.

‘Michael Langley proved what a good keeper he is becoming by making a series of great saves. Especially the one just before the break, when he managed to deflect a goal bound shot onto the bar. FC United showed they had what it takes by forcing Blues back for 20 minutes and restricting the home side to breaking out from defence.

‘Into the second period and Blues once again started strongly, a cross by Rick Arnold found Man of the Match, Mark Quinn, who calmly dispatched it passed a despairing keeper, to grab the opening goal. Just minutes later Lee Hughes had a chance to double the lead, but once again was foiled by the heroics of Priestley.

‘Steve Torpey equalized for the visitors with a rifling shot through a crowded area, leaving Langley with no chance to even see the ball until it was too late. Adie Orr put FC United ahead just 4 minutes later. A lesser team would have dropped their heads at this point but Blues just kept up the pressure, a long ball over the visitors defence looked like a lost cause until Stuart Wellstead raced down the wing collected the ball and powered his shot into the net to level the game. This was a hard fought encounter, but both sides came out of the game with an undefeated record intact.’
