GARY NEVILLE – WE WEREN'T GOOD ENOUGH

Last updated : 08 December 2005 By editor

Gary Neville, "Qualifying for the knockout stages has been par for the course - but we have not been good enough in this group. That is unlike us but it's difficult to explain why. Usually we score lots of goals. (arf! – ed)

"It was a dream start. We played quite well for the first 10-15 minutes but we didn't react very well after their first goal and for the remainder of the half we were all over the place at times - we lost our discipline a little bit to be honest.

"We got it back in the second half and played a lot better but it was a difficult atmosphere with them (Benfica) going down and wasting time. We've seen it before - in those situations you rarely get the goal you want because they are hanging on to it. After their first goal we seemed to lose our way - sometimes you cant do anything about it. We all tried but we're extremely disappointed."
