Armstrong, now a pundit on Spanish football for Sky Sports, said:

"I don't think Beckham will go to Barcelona. I believe tentative talks have been going with Real Madrid for weeks, probably a month. But I don't think it has been any more than that. The fact that Fergie is interested in Geremi could have something to do with it. I think Geremi plus cash could be the way Real Madrid will go.”

"If Beckham wants to come to Spain he will end up at Real Madrid.”

Armstrong believes the situation surrounding Beckham will drag on.

"I think this is going to run for weeks," he said.
