It had been reported that the pair had fallen out over comments made by Trapattoni, recommending that Gibson quit United and went to a club where he would get regular first team football.
"I can see where he is coming from," Gibson told skysports.com.
"Obviously he wants me to play every week so that he can get the best out of me when I play for Ireland but it's not happening at the minute so both of us have just got to deal with it.
"There have been no bad words between us or anything. There is no bad air between the both of us. It is just the way things are."
