GIFT OF THE GAB

"Team spirit is vital in whatever club and I see a lot of unity in our dressing room - even last season when things didn't go well we were united.

"I don't know how things are at Chelsea but the things that Carvalho said make you wonder. I would never have said those things because you win your place in the team in training not for being outspoken.

"Just the mention of the name Ferguson earns respect. He is an institution in world football and he has so much experience.

"I've seen Chelsea's first two games and they haven't really impressed me. They don't look as formidable as last season - they won at Wigan with a late Crespo goal and the Arsenal game would normally have ended as a draw.

"I think during the early part of the season Arsenal are showing signs of missing Patrick Vieira but they are a very hard-working team and they are always a dangerous rival for us. I don't think they will be champions but they will be there fighting for the top positions. Winning every game in a season is almost impossible, even more so because of the tremendous competition that exists in the Premiership.

"I'm full of optimism for the season. I think we can go for everything and that includes the Champions League

Trophies:

''All the best teams are judged by how well they do in the big competitions and United are no exception.

''We know we didn't do our best last season and we must put that right this time."

More Heinze in The Mirror:

''The squad came back for pre-season two weeks earlier than normal and the spirit amongst us is positive.

''We were not consistent enough last season but the start we have made has given us a great chance to build on that.

''It was difficult for the players (last season) and I'm sure it was difficult for the fans, too, because of course we wanted to be champions and we felt it should have been us.

''But we don't need any more of an incentive to bring trophies back to Old Trafford this season.

''I'm 100 percent confident we can do that. If I wasn't, I would give up football and go on holiday.''
