From The Times:

'Ryan Giggs will be given the captaincy to commemorate his long-overdue 50th appearance for Wales against Austria on Saturday, 13 years after his first, but it is a reflection of the uncertainty surrounding the national team that he will not be considered for the role on a permanent basis.

Giggs has also said that he is disappointed that senior players have retired from the international side:

"It’s disappointing that some of the senior players have retired because they had a lot of experience and were important members of the squad," Giggs said yesterday. "Robbie Savage is a bubbly character and it was nice to have him around. He is a quality player as well. But footballers just have to get on with it and that is what we will do."
