Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs was honoured last night when he was named BBC Sports Personality of the year for 2009.

In May Giggs won a record 11^th Premiership winner’s medal, making him the most decorated player in football history.

Giggs beat F1 champion Jensen Button to the number one spot while heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis came third.
