GIGGS LOOKS TO THE FUTURE

"A few of us have done our coaching course, but you change your mind all the time. "Seeing what happened to Brucey in midweek doesn't put me off. That happens in management. You have your ups and downs and your downs usually make you stronger, the same happens as a player.

"You just don't know at this stage. I don't have to worry about it just yet. It could be three or four years away.

"If I'm really honest with myself, I don't think I've sprinted flat out for 10 years.

"I'm really enjoying it. I have to realise I don't have the explosive pace I did when I was 19 or 20, it's a simple as that. You have to use your experience and that is what I have always tried to do. I have always tried to develop my game. I am still developing it. It's nice that I know if the manager wants me to play in there that I can do it.

"Oviously it's a lot different in the Premiership, but it's enjoyable. You see a lot more of the ball and I think with the movement of players we have up front, when you're on the ball you have so many options — though you have to remember your defensive duties as well. I'm not really fussed where I play. Probably my number one position is still on the left, but I can play off the front or in midfield, it doesn't really matter."

"It's exciting to be part of the new generation. There's so much talent between the likes of Cristiano, Wayne, Giuseppe (Rossi) and Gerard (Pique) it's great just to watch them in training sometimes. Cristiano and Wayne are important first-team players and I'm sure the other lads will join them because the quality is there," he said."

"We know we haven't been good enough in the last couple of seasons. But we can come back. I think it's important that we won a trophy this year. I said after the Carling Cup final it's important the young players know what it's like to win something. A lot has been made of it being the fourth trophy that we go for at the start of the season, but there is still the feeling of winning and everything that comes with it, walking around the pitch, seeing the smiles, having a medal around your neck. It's important and I've tried to stress it to the young players. Now hopefully they can push on next year. I think it's possible to win the title again. With the players we have there's every chance."
