GIGGS THOUGHT HE WAS A GONER

Giggs:

"I can't say my future was never in doubt. I have never had
the level of stick I got last season from the crowd in all
my career. You never know what's going to happen in football
but I always wanted to stay at United and I am glad I am
still here. It was tough at times last season. I'd had stick
in the past, but never to that extent.

"When you play for United, expectations are high. And if you
fall below those expectations, you'll get stick. But
experience sees you through in the end. You know in yourself
if you are not playing well, and it's all about pride. You
don't want to let your team-mates down, and you want to
produce for yourself.

"But I always knew what I was capable of. I knew it was the
little things that were the problem and, after a couple of
games rest, I knew I'd come through it - which I did.

"Last season we had players who hadn't won anything before
and so they were really hungry, players like Rio Ferdinand,
Seba Veron and Ruud van Nistelrooy. Now they have won
something, hopefully that experience will move them on to
the next level, the Champions League. We need to win it to
prove ourselves again.

“If Manchester United can win the Championship again and
Wales qualify for the European Championship, it will go down
as the best season of my career.”
