GLAZERS SET TO INCREASE PRICES?

United have just released details of how members can apply to buy a season ticket at Old Trafford for next season. Included in the blurb is the following:

"It is important to note that by registering your interest in a new Season Ticket, you will also be committing to purchase tickets for all home cup games played at Old Trafford during the season."

This follows on from strong rumours that the Glazers are set to add the cost of up to six cup fixtures - up to £216 at current prices - to the price of season tickets, ignoring the fact that the team may not even have six home cup fixtures in any given season.

If this policy is implemented what this means for the Glazers is that they get almost 1/3 extra revenue up front from supporters, whilst fans are forced to buy tickets for games such as a European qualifier or League Cup reserve match which they may not normally wish to attend. What it also means is that fans who previously may have opted to sit in a different stand/alongside mates or purchase a cheaper ticket for cup fixtures will no longer have that option.

In another annoucement United say that "existing Season Ticket Holders will not be required to join the Cup Scheme" but then of course this policy could easily not be counted as "joining the Cup Scheme" especially if more than 6 cup games were played over the season. Note that United employed a similar weasel way with words when denying that plans were in place to "rename" Old Trafford, when in fact they are planning to offer firms the chance to buy "presenting rights" to the ground.
