"This won't do us any harm as far as next season is concerned but the momentum has been created by the whole of this season," he stated.

"The pivotal moment was Rio Ferdinand's suspension. I know that for a fact. It cost us dearly, but come September that will be behind us and we can go on and improve ourselves next season.

"I won't worry about my summer. I know we will be back.

"But I'm never fulfilled. That's my problem. You have to take the good times with the bad in this game. It makes the good times really good. I have been a manager for 30 years and in nine of them I have not won anything. I can handle that even though I don't like it. But I can do something about it, and fortunately I have the players who can do something about it too."
