Harry Maguire on Cristiano Ronaldo's Manchester United return

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has spoken about the return of Cristiano Ronaldo, saying that it's 'amazing to have him at the club'.

The forward was confirmed as a United player on deadline day, returning to Old Trafford in a deal worth around £20m from Juventus.

Ronaldo previously spent six years with the Red Devils, signing from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 and establishing himself as a club legend before securing a world record transfer to Real Madrid in 2009.

During that first spell the forward bagged 118 goals in 292 appearances, winning three Premier League titles, two League Cups, one FA Cup and a Champions League crown - as well as his first Ballon d'Or award in 2008.

Speaking at an England press conference before the Three Lions face Hungary on Thursday night, the current club captain confirmed how thrilled he is with the arrival of the 36-year-old.

"Yeah of course it's amazing," he said, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

"Obviously I'm away with England at the moment so my focus is on the game tomorrow but for him to sign back for the club, for me the greatest player to ever play the game, so it's amazing to have him at the club.

"I'm sure he's going to have a huge impact at the club on and off the field," he continued, "and many players can look and learn and improve and then obviously he's going to improve our team as well with his goalscoring record.

"It's amazing to have him at the club and I'm looking forward to meeting him in a few days."

Both Maguire and Ronaldo are away on international duty for their respective countries and will reconvene before United host Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday 11 September.
