'Rio is one of the best central defenders in the world. Maybe he is not in the best form, but that happens.

'If you take the last World Cup, he was the best defender from any country and he is still young, so I don't see why he won't reach that level again. It will be interesting to see how he does against Chelsea. It's a good test for him - and for a lot of players.'

'For me, and I don't think he can do it at Man United at the moment, I'd love to see him in that holding midfield role.

'Rio can't do it at United because he's under too much pressure - they haven't got another two centre-halves - but he can do it for England. We've got Sol Campbell and John Terry, two fantastic defenders, behind him. Technically he's good. We need him in the team.'
