"When I was going through that stage where everyone hated me after the
World Cup in '98, Man United fans were the ones, along with my family, who
got me through," he said.
"The United fans kept me at the club and I like to think I've got a special
relationship with them."
"I'm a Man United supporter - simple," he said. "I love playing here. I'm Man
United through and through. It would have been upsetting to leave Man
United. The bond between myself and the club and the fans is stronger than
ever before. All the players at Man United feel that special bond and there is
not a day passes when I do not feel very lucky and privileged to be part of
such a fantastic club."
"I always knew that Man United were the only club I ever wanted to play for.
When you see players like Ryan Giggs and Roy Keane signing their contracts
it makes you want to stay even more people have been talking about this
team breaking up but it's never been closer. The desire the players have got
and the desire the manager pumps into us is why we work hard for each other
and work hard for the manager. We will be back next season - make no
mistake."
