HEINZE WILL PLAY AT LEFT BACK

Sir Alex Ferguson said: “Heinze has been playing in the Copa America for Argentina at centre-half which gives me a great option.

“But we are pursuing the position of left-back for him. He played most of last season there for PSG and we see him in that position in our team.”

This means that he will be replacing John O’Shea in the back four, and Fergie has already let the young Irishman know that he will have to fight to find a place in the team:

"I've had a few chats with the boy, he knows himself. He's still only 23, very young for a defender. He has to maybe look at another position. He's a naturally right-footed player and could play centre midfield, centre back or right back maybe.

"He's very versatile, but he's suffered because of that. But he's a good type, and you always think with guys of decent character is that they find their way back. He's got years ahead of him."
