David Moyes has asked Alex Ferguson for advice on how to deal with Wayne Rooney's growing fame.

The Goodison Park boss has kept Rooney on a tight leash since his emergence with the winner against Arsenal a year ago, and is unhappy with the youngster's plans for the star-studded bash at Aintree racecourse.

And Moyes has not been afraid to go to fellow Scot Ferguson for a few tips on managing teenagers.

'I disagree with his people over this,' said Moyes. 'I would not mind if it was just family and friends. I have done everything I can to try and avoid publicity.”

'And the thing that comes to my mind is trying to remember David Beckham's 18th birthday party or Ryan Giggs'. Can you? No. Exactly.

'I would like to bring Wayne up the same way Alex brought up Giggs. Ryan is a balanced individual and a terrific player. Limiting media exposure at an early age benefited him.'
