The Evening News reports:

Grandad Wilf Sudlow helped to defeat the Nazis in 1945. Now
he's helping to fight off a ''foreign menace'' to his
beloved Manchester United. The 81-year old from Didsbury has
brought up £50 worth of shares for himself and £50 worth of
shares for each of his seven children after reading about
Shareholders United in the M.E.N.

We reported how the supporters trust was rallying popular
support in a bid to head off any attempted take-overs and to
give United fans a say in the running of their club.

The response was remarkable with the fans flooding SU with
requests for shares and more information.

Wilf was among them, and he said: ''I feel we should all do
our best to keep these foreign interests out of our club.
There is only one United, and we should keep it that way.''

Wilf first went to Old Trafford as a babe in arms in 1923,
and became a firm fan of the club after the war.

He recalled: ''My brother wrote me a letter telling me to
get out of the army quick, because United had got a great
team together under a chap called Matt Busby.

''I remember the 1948 Cup final, beating Blackpool 4-2, the
greatest cup final of them all.

''And I remember seeing Duncan Edwards scoring from the half
way line for the youth team, and the shot was so powerful it
carried the goalkeeper over the line.''
