"According to Corriere dello Sport, United are ready to battle Leeds United for the Argentina international after Rennes insisted no January deal would happen for Julien Escude.
"The Italian newspaper says United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is prepared to offer striker Diego Forlan in part-exchange for Sorin, who carries a price-tag of £8 million.
"Leeds, however, are seen as favourites to land the former Cruzeiro midfielder with talks between both clubs - and the player's representatives - already at an advanced stage."
Forlan in part-exchange? An old pair of socks would be more tempting. And more valuable.
