HOWARD'S PLACE UNDER THREAT

Rio Ferdinand's expected return to Manchester United's defence against Liverpool on Monday is unlikely to be the only change for a team who have won just one league game all season, Tim Howard's hold on the goalkeeping position already looking as tenuous as some of his attempts to hang on to the ball.

‘Ferguson dropped Howard, also at fault for Bolton's second goal last Saturday, in favour of Roy Carroll last March, after the American had conceded four goals against Manchester City and only days after his error against Porto eliminated United from the Champions League.’
