'Not being in the Champions League doesn't bear thinking about for Manchester United.
'We hold the record for any club in terms of consecutive Champions League seasons, so to not be in it would be a disaster.'
He also thinks the draw could have been a lot worse than it was.
'We saw the teams we could have drawn and there were a few you wouldn't like to play in the Champions League quarter-finals, let alone the qualifying stages,' said Neville.
'On paper, it is a fairly favourable draw but we know Debrecen will make it difficult for us, especially in the away leg.
'We have to make sure we put in a good performance in the first game at Old Trafford, hopefully get a good lead and give ourselves a more comfortable ride in the second leg.'
