IMUSA KEEPING BUSY

Chairman Mark Longden said:

“The Premier League want to stick with the random nature of
the fixture list, but surely that system is a bit antiquated
for the 21st century.

“Officials need to start looking at the big picture because
they are alienating the supporters who carried the game
through the tough times 20 years ago.

“More and more it appears that the bubble is starting to
deflate rapidly as far as football finances are concerned,
and in a few years' time clubs will need those supporters.

“United have said that clubs like Fulham and Charlton
wouldn't be prepared to forego their cut of a game being
televised, and I'm sure that's quite correct,

“However, if the games were spread out more they would be on
television more often in their own right anyway - so they
would still get the money.

“I don't advocate matches being televised at 3pm on a
Saturday, because it would have to impact on other clubs
further down the leagues.

“This issue is one of the biggest in the game at the moment
and it needs to be treated with more seriousness by the
authorities than it appears to be at the moment.”
