IN THE HOCK

This from the latest RI, published last Tuesday:

The hottest plan on the table at OT, we hear, is this: to turn as many as possible of Old Trafford's seats over to the season-ticket market. Hitherto, United have had a ceiling of about 43,000 pre-paid seats, leaving the rest to be sold on a match-by-match basis. In doing so, that helped keep up merchandise sales as season-ticketers tend not to need to go to the megastore.

But some of the impetus for that policy has been lost with the Nike deal of course.

The Glazers, it is said, would prefer as much guaranteed cash upfront as possible in future - and that in turn would open the way more than ever to 'securitization' debt-restructuring possibilities.

If you think United are in hock now, wait until THAT kicked in..and we think this is the bit where we whisper 'Leeds United, anyone?'.

The M.E.N. follow - looks like they've been reading the mag too.

Manchester United will release a further 7,000 season tickets when Old Trafford is expanded at the start of next season.

The decision to increase capacity at the Theatre of Dreams to 75,000 for the 2006-07 campaign has offered United officials the chance to lift the previous ceiling on season tickets, raising the new mark to 50,000.
