Police yesterday arrested farmyard pin up Alan Smith for throwing a bottle into the crowd during the Carling Cup defeat to United. Smith had been called up by Sven Goran Eriksson to play in the England international against Denmark this Saturday but had only just linked up with the rest of the squad when he was arrested.

"Further to discussions this evening, Alan Smith has left the England camp and
returned home," said an FA spokesman. "We will be issuing a full statement in the morning."

"A 23-year-old man was arrested by officers in Leeds today," the police confirmed.

"He was questioned in relation to the Leeds United fixture on October 28."
And in a week which has seen Smith been linked to Manchester United it now
appears that Leeds will stop at nothing to keep Smith from playing at Old Trafford!
