INJURY CRISIS

Ferguson:

"I'm actually only playing with 12 players now, the rest are injured.

"It's an injury crisis of major proportions.

"We've got to patch up a team for this massive game on Tuesday now.

"The injuries killed us in the first half. I was hoping to get to halftime to get Rio off ... Rio was limping, he just couldn't get to it.

"Maybe if I'd taken him off it would have been OK."

Ferdinand's groin injury will keep him out of action for two weeks, ruling him out of the Milan games. He joins Vidic (collarbone), Neville (ankle), Park and Saha (hamstring).

Ferguson talks about Vidic's recovery:

"Vida is coming along very - very well.

"He starts training on Monday. He has been doing some physical work in the gym but he will start the serious work next week.

"Hopefully that will make him available for the last few games."

On Saha's mental state:

"Louis, in his own mind, has got to be 100 per cent fit, . He just felt it in the game against Roma in Italy and he felt it in training the next day a little bit.

"We feel he is back but it is just a confidence thing to make sure he feels he is right. There is a cautious approach where he wants to be fully 100 per cent fit."

And this before Ferdinand's injury yesterday:

"The front players can play all over the place. Alan Smith can play midfield, wide right and centre forward. Ole can cover all three positions up front. Cristiano Ronaldo can cover three positions and so can Wayne Rooney.

"Ryan Giggs can play wide left, centre midfield or through the middle. He has even played wide right.

"John O'Shea can play several positions. Darren Fletcher has proved he can play wide right, centre midfield and now right-back.

"Kieran Richardson can play left-back or wide midfield. Gaby Heinze can play left-back or central defence.

"Patrice Evra maybe could play as a wide left player in a four. He played as a wing-back in the Champions League final for Monaco against Porto.

"The one player who you have to say is maybe one- dimensional and we have to change him is Rio Ferdinand."
