INJURY UPDATE

Gabriel Heinze could be available from next week as he aims to return to the Premiership for the first time in a year. Alan Smith is also nearing a comeback although he may be a little further away than he actually hopes. Ferguson said:

“Alan is not 100% yet,” he said. “But his mobility is gradually coming back and the strength in his calf muscles is getting stronger. He is on the right way.

“I've seen him quoted saying he's ready for the first team, and that's the enthusiasm we've come to expect of him. Alan would play for us with a broken leg, but we take the more sensible view and make sure he is fully recovered before he comes back in.”

Meanwhile Vidic who fractured his wrist a month ago is closest to first team action after having a cast made for his arm.

“Vida had a lightweight cast put on his arm last week which allows him to play,” explained Sir Alex. “That's good news for us and for him. He is champing at the bit to get back playing.”
