"It's not nice for the fans and the public to see what happened on the pitch, but, as players, yeah, we think it's done and dusted.

"We are all friends and we all talk. It's not that we all hate each other. It's just on the pitch tempers run high and everyone wants to win. For me you have a laugh and a joke about the game, but that's it. Whatever happens on that pitch, on that day, that's it, it's finished.

"If I kick one of my mates, Gary Neville or someone, it's over. I will never take any grudges or say 'I remember that'.

"At the end of the day football's football and we are all friends, and we have to play for England together, and we want to win things together. When we join up we're really close and hopefully that will help us out."

Cole, speaking on Five Live, has even forgiven Ruud for that mistimed tackle: "Yeah, when it happened I said I'm not going to moan because I got sent off for a bad tackle. It was really high but I'll forgive him, it's fine really."
