ManUtd.com readers have voted United’s fans Man of the Match for their vocal performance at Ewood Park on Saturday.

The Reds’ 6,500 travelling support received 47.7% of the vote - despite the team losing 1-0 to Blackburn - ahead of Tim Howard in second place (19.6%) and Ryan Giggs in third (10.3%).

There was a party-like atmosphere in the United end, largely created by supporters taking part in a Retro day organised by independent fanzine Red Issue.

The fanzine encouraged fans to take a step back in time to dress as Reds in the 1970s once did: wearing white butchers coats adorned with slogans like ‘Doc’s Red Army’, bar-scarves and retro United shirts. It was a sight that left Blackburn fans, stewards and police bemused, to say the least.

The retro theme also extended to the chants that were sung. Classics like, "M-U, M-U-F, M-U-F-C, OK!" were belted out and legendary players of the past had their names chanted - including ManUtd.com columnist "skip to my" Lou Macari.

The fans then moved on from the 70s chants to songs of a decade later when trips to FA Cup finals were normally the team’s only chance of silverware. "Que sera sera," was followed by, "She wore a scarlet ribbon," and "Wem-ber-lee, Wem-ber-lee, We’re the famous Man United and we’re going to Wem-ber-lee!"

With modern classics like "Take me home United Road" - plus songs for Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole, two ex-Reds on duty for Blackburn – being voted Man of the Match was a just reward for the brilliant vocal backing of United’s travelling support.

Unfortunately, that support was not repaid with a positive result for the team but, with a trip to the Millennium Stadium approaching, it certainly bodes well for the backing Keane and company can expect in Cardiff later this month.
