Malcolm Glazer is ready to keep his distance from Manchester United fans desperate to drive him out of the club -by holding board meetings 4,000 miles from Old Trafford in Tampa.

The American tycoon tightened his grip on United this week by placing his sons on the club's board. But the 76-year-old has no intention of forcing his sons to put their safety and security on the line by flying to Manchester to attend to club business.

Militant United fans have warned the Glazers that their well-being will be at risk if they set foot inside Old Trafford after the £790 million takeover.

Talks between the Glazers and chief executive David Gill have already taken place via video link since last month's explosive buy-out, and the United board have held important meetings with Malcolm and Joel Glazer in the form of telephone conferences.

Gill is in talks with the Glazers in Tampa after being summoned to Florida to discuss the future direction of the club with the new owners.
