The Uefa website reports that Hilda McDermott made history
in January when she refereed a match between Dublin City and
Athlone Town.

She marked her debut with a red card for Conor Frawley, an
Athlone defender, and said afterwards:

"I would have liked to go through the match without a red
card as it was my first game," she told the Irish Sun. "But
I didn't even think about it. The player went in for the
tackle and I booked him. Then I realised he had already been
booked, and I had to send him off. When I heard I was
refereeing the match, I did have second thoughts. But by
then the media were aware of it and if I had not done the
match, it would have looked like I had chickened out."

NWAF are said to be concerned that such trends may make
their way into English football.
