Jadon Sancho ruled out of Hungary clash with injury

Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has been ruled out of England's upcoming World Cup qualifier against Hungary after picking up a knock in training.

Manager Gareth Southgate revealed on Wednesday that Sancho was doubtful for the game because of the injury, with the winger being sent for a late fitness test before kick-off on Thursday evening.

Unfortunately, it seems as though Sancho is not going to make it as Sky Sports News have ruled the United man out of action for the first of England's World Cup qualifiers.

It is hoped that Sancho will be able to feature when Andorra come to Wembley on September 5, but in the meantime, Southgate will have to turn to one of the other attacking midfielders in his squad to face Hungary.

Bukayo Saka, Mason Mount, Jesse Lingard and Manchester City duo Raheem Sterling and Jack Grealish are Southgate's other options in attack.

Losing Sancho is obviously frustrating for Southgate, who recently suggested the Hungary game could be 'pivotal' to his side's chances of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.

"I think the two away games this week are both going to be hugely challenging," said the boss. "They're good teams. They're obviously pivotal games in terms of qualification.

"You can't predict what your hardest games are going to be, but we know that Hungary are a very good side and sit second in the group.

"The team has gained confidence from what they achieved and the progress they've made, not only this summer, but over the last four years. But equally we have to start again. The journey to having the chance of another run like that in a tournament is under way. We have got to be at our very best.

"Mentally it's a good test for us. Away from home, 60,000 fans and a very good team we're playing against."
