“We will keep Roy out until the new year but he will be captain. Roy did say that he would step down but there is no question of that happening.
“He is the driving force. the inspiration, the best reader of the game, the best talker, the biggest winner. How can you not let him captain the team?
“Every top player has baggage. If it is going to be the case that Roy is targeted every week like he was by Jason McAteer, we will have to do the preparation differently.
“We will have to do what we did with Eric.
“He probably didn’t expect that of McAteer. Jason doesn’t come across as a bad lad, I think maybe he is a bit daft.
“I told Roy that he shouldn’t get worked up because he beats them all at football.”
