Julen Lopetegui dismisses links to Manchester United job

Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui has insisted he will remain at the Spanish club next season amid speculation linking him with the Manchester United job.

The 55-year-old has overseen a successful period with the Andalusian side, notably knocking United out on their way to winning the 2020 Europa League.

While their form has tailed off in recent weeks, Sevilla had also been challenging Real Madrid for La Liga's title this season.

Lopetegui had been tentatively linked with taking charge at Old Trafford as Man Utd's search for a new boss goes on, but the Spaniard told El Chiringuito that he has 'no doubt' that he will still be at Sevilla next year.

"The [speculation], I can't help it," Lopetegui said. "I am where I want to be. Continue on the Sevilla bench next season? I have no doubt."

Lopetegui has managed to rebuild his managerial career in Andalusia following a disastrous spell prior to moving to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. He was set to lead Spain at the 2018 World Cup but was sacked on the eve of the tournament when it emerged he had an agreement to join Real Madrid later that summer.

Succeeding the hugely successful and popular Zinedine Zidane in the Santiago Bernabeu hot seat, Lopetegui won just six of his 14 games in charge before he was given his marching orders, returning to management in 2019 with Sevilla.
