Van Nistelrooy says he is trying to improve his all round game.
"I hope I won't tire this season, like I did last, I have been working on my physical strength and aim to be fitter as the season goes on. I do feel good. I'm working hard on the overall playing side, holding the ball up and getting assists which was not the case last season – perhaps in some games but not in them all. People probably didn't notice that because of all the goals I scored."
Before the game Basle coach Christian Gross said he feared RVN and saw nothing on Tuesdya night to change his mind:
"That goal-scoring monster Van Nistelrooy killed us. Had Gimenez scored shortly after the interval when he had a chance, we would have taken three points. But Fabien Barthez made an incredible save."
