KEANE FIRED UP

As he was not on the field in the Nou Camp Keane does not consider that he earned his European Cup winners medal:

"I have got the medal in a drawer somewhere. But I do not feel like I’ve won a European Cup.

"I received a medal but didn’t feel I deserved it. It was not just me who missed out through suspension that night but Paul Scholes as well. I will not kid anyone — it was a really tough day for us."

"We had played the previous 12 games in the competition but come the big night I could not be part of it. Perhaps it was just unlucky 13. People tell me how much I did to help United to the final but, come the big party, I wasn’t part of it. Ask Paul Scholes as well, it just was not the same as being out there. I was pleased for everyone but it was the other players who had done it that night not me."

Keane is determined to put things right: "We have had great chances to win the European Cup again. But talk is cheap. We have to go out there and do it. We want to be mentioned in the same breath as the likes of Juventus and Milan who are constantly getting to these finals."
